Who is a “Qualified Person” in relation to Quality Assurance?
According to the Guidance Book, “The Quality Assurance person must have the ability to evaluate the operations of the LP to ensure compliance with Division 4, and the technical knowledge to be able to assess analytical testing results in order to be able to make the determination of whether the dried marihuana is suitable for sale.”
Health Canada’s primary concern seems to be that the Quality Assurance person will be able to interpret the results of the laboratory testing which will be required to ensure the safety and consistency of the product. We recommend that the Quality Assurance person hold a degree or diploma in a scientific field such as botany, organic chemistry, or food science, which includes a laboratory component. It is possible that individuals who have several years of industry experience may be accepted by Health Canada in lieu of formal qualifications, but to ensure a strong application, it will be necessary to demonstrating a background in interpreting laboratory reports as part of this industry experience.
